The handling of uncertainties in process synthesis, optimization, planning and scheduling must be addressed in research activities. Uncertainties in process parameters are evaluated through flexibility analysis, and through stochastic programming. Uncertain demands are considered in planning problems, and uncertain time duration in scheduling problems.
